Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)

A supplemental part of our Undergraduate Program is our VPK offering. Kid’s Community College families can choose either a School-Year or Summer VPK Program.

The Voluntary Prekindergarten Program (VPK) was implemented in 2002 in order to give all of Florida's four-year-olds access to a free, quality prekindergarten educational experience. The VPK program is free to families and does not have any income requirements. Families can enroll their four-year-old in the 540-hour School-Year VPK Program OR the 300-hour Summer VPK Program.

VPK is designed to prepare four-year-old children for kindergarten and develop the skills they need to become good readers and successful students. The Kid’s Community College® VPK program meets all and exceeds most of the State’s VPK requirements. Our VPK offering is a high-quality program, rich in literacy with high academic standards, strict accountability, appropriate curricula, substantial instruction periods, small class sizes and qualified early educators.

The Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County administers the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program at the local level which includes registering child care providers and providing applications and information to parents. For additional information regarding the VPK program standards, registration locations and eligibility, please visit http://www.elchc.org/vpk_parent.html.

School-Year VPK Program

The School-Year VPK program consists of 540 instructional hours and is all-inclusive. Above all, we provide a warm, loving and nurturing learning environment where every student will celebrate diversity and feel happy and accepted. Our Professors create early educational experiences that nurture, encourage and foster learning by interacting with students in a loving and attentive fashion.

The collaborative effort between and among Professors and parents is established from the onset of a student's tenure at Kid’s Community College. Students are assessed and an Individual Development and Education Plan (IDEP) is created for each child - setting personalized goals for each student based on their individual needs. The IDEP is updated regularly and planned parent conferences are scheduled quarterly to ensure that every area of your child's development is being addressed.
